Nurses are effectively patient care managers with the power to positively impact all aspects of care. All patients and nursing staff are equally important in the business of nursing at PRMC, and shared governance is the responsibility of everyone. Patients are encouraged to share in the leadership of their care. Interdisciplinary, collaborative processes are vital to creating a patient/family centered, caring environment. Advocacy for our patients is also advanced through local, state, and national activism.

Nursing staff qualify to provide care through licensure, competence, and a commitment to professional development through lifelong learning. Mentoring people and the evolution of healthcare will remain a priority. Through education of patients, family, and the community; nursing will advocate for health and healing of all. Education should inform evidence-based practice and lead to an outcomes orientation that seeks to advance individual patient health, caregiver wellbeing and the profession of nursing.

Respect for each other, patients, families, visitors, and ourselves. This creates an environment in which caregivers want to work and patients want to receive care. Professionalism is rooted in maturity and respect for others. Respect for patient autonomy and honoring the patient as the driver of their own health builds relationships. Healthy relationships can only be achieved through respectful interactions. Culturally competent care allows nurses to respect a patient's beliefs.

To care for others, we must actively plan for the future of nursing at PRMC. This mandates strategic planning to accomplish effective recruiting, succession, and achievement of a future vision that is designed purposefully.

Nursing is viewed by the public as a highly respected profession. To uphold the perception of others and to best serve our patients and each other, nursing staff will be honest, responsible, accountable, reliable, and ethical always. Integrity means that our patients can count on us to keep their healthcare private and uphold the laws of the land to the fullest capacity.

Caring through empathy, understanding, and vulnerability, nursing care will include promotion, maintenance, and restoration of the body, mind, and spirit of all individuals. Compassion extends to caregivers, co-workers, providers and all within the environment and community.

Everyone has a right to healthcare in an environment that is inclusive and care that is equitable. Everyone can expect that nurses will treat with dignity and protect from harm regardless of personal differences or characteristics. We will value diversity, while delivering holistic care to impact the quality of life from birth to ensuring the dignity in death.
